Institutions

Institutions are configuration records that specify your SFS setup. Every Student Financial Software (SFS) system is required to have a 'root' institutions and you can add as many sub-institutions as needed for your configuration.

Root institution

The root institutions specifies the URL for your website. Many configuration options are maintained at the root and are applied to all sub-institutions.

Sub-institution

Sub-institutions are required for:

  • Cohorts

  • On demand payment plans

  • Separate end of day files

  • Multiple payment methods and processors

  • Reports separated by cohort

  • Multiple term start and end dates

Institution and sub-institution setup

You can configure institutions and sub-institutions in a tree format. Every SFS setup is required to have a root institution, but sub-institutions can have other sub-institutions as their parent.

You can think of the root and sub-institutions as a tree, with the root as the base of the tree and the other institutions building off of the root.
